Federal Law Blocks Marriage For Illegal ImmigrantsPosted by Boarder as Federal Law, Immigration 12 Jul 2007 A new federal law is inadvertently making it impossible for illegal immigrants to get married in the United States. The law, which has been in the books for over a decade, requires couples to present their Social Security numbers when they apply for wedding licenses. The law was originally intended to make it easier to collect child care payments. Now thousands of couples around the country are traveling to different counties, states and even leaving the country to pursue marriage with their loved ones.
