It seems that our Gallic partners in the West are not to suffer the fire and chaos that swept the nation two years ago. After only a few days of violent unrest in the Parisian suburbs — including the disturbing use of shotguns by immigrant youths on the riot police — the people there have calmed down, in part because of government promises. Let’s see if this time, Sarkozy can make good on his word.
